Hangin With the Mayor
Just sitting around shooting the breeze with my good buddy Worth. Tonight was one of those old school nights spent re-installing WINDOWS FREAKIN 98!! He has a friend that still uses it (I can’t believe that) on a daily basis.
Just so you know a little back story… The computer started acting funny so Worth brought it over for us to examine. He told his friend that he may need to re-install the OS thus wiping out all of the original data. His friend agreed and gave the go ahead as long as we saved his “My Documents” folder. Enter problem number 1.
Windows 98 does not have native usb disk storage support!
We decided to run a live linux cd to handle the data recovery efforts. my first choice was Knoppix STD… Well, it didn’t recognize the disk. So I had to move on to Sabayon POD.
Sabayon Linux is a distribution based on Gentoo Linux. It has a strong emphasis towards the artistic aesthetic qualities of desktop computing. But I used none of that. I booted straight to the console and grabbed the data we needed.
I could go on and on but I won’t. I’m actually too tired to continue this rant tonight. All I can say is that I’m glad I use Linux for my desktop and not crappy old Windows 98.
